My life has always consisted of movement in some way

I grew up on a farm in South Africa, surrounded by unlimited space, and climbing trees and running barefoot were part of everyday. Sports at my school(1984-1995) and university (1996-1999) consisted of competitive hockey, running and gym classes.

A two-year backpack journey brought me to the UK and Europe in 1999. Unlimited space to train became less, and my training world became the inside of the gym and all it had to offer. For 20 years,I worked as a personal trainer in the city of London, the financial centre, and qualified at the same time as a studio instructor. Teaching a mixture of classes including Les Mills Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Balance, Pilates and Indoor Cycling.

Running became my outdoor escape, leading to numerous half marathons and two full marathons with all the training to support them. Long-distance running tests your body and mind to the limit.

Despite my love of movement, I found my body did not cope well with the mix of the various disciplines, which came as a surprise. Until then, I had regarded all movement as medicine, all movement as healing.

So I delft deeper, researching everything to do with movement, corrective exercise and rehabilitation, to build on the knowledge I had gained from my degree in Human Movement Science.
This is what I discovered;

  • The body will choose the path of least resistance, even if it causes pain.
  • The body will compromise on the quality of movement if quantity is needed.
  • That pain is the body's signal to change.

I became a movement coach to teach you what I have learned.

A few more twists in my journey led me to this point...

COVID closed gym doors, and my PT business had to move to a digital platform. The way we worked and worked out changed, and working out online became the norm.

In 2021 I had a hysterectomy at the age of 44. All movement stopped. I woke up post-surgery, and my very able body was now weak.

Getting out of bed and walking for 5 min was a challenge. A slow and long recovery journey began. My recovery taught and reminded me how to build and rebuild my own body. The only way back was to return to beginning and to focus on basics.

  • My motivation is to help you move with efficiency and power.
  • My goal for you are to live a life with no limits.
